Okay… So… About a month or so ago, I posted that I’m starting my next nonfiction book. Well, the good news is that I’ve started, but the bad news is that I haven’t finished. I hit a little bump in the road. I outsourced the research piece of the project, thinking that would cut down my prep time significantly. Unfortunately, my “researcher” didn’t work out. I never actually got anything. At least I didn’t pay any up front fees, so I didn’t really lose anything other than time.
In the meantime, I’ve also started writing other things that is taking my focus away from the nonfiction project that I should be laser focused on. I am easily distracted and often get myself in trouble with too many things started. I eventually get overwhelmed and I crash before I can finish anything.
But! I’m not a complete mess. I do much better when I’m accountable to someone or in this case a something called a word count widget. I don’t know if this will work on me, but I am a very visual creature and the anticipation of seeing that little red line creep forward, should feel pretty rewarding — sort of like, when I can actually check off a task on my multiple To-do lists. It feels satisfying.
Well, that’s the goal anyways. So, if you scroll all the way to the bottom of this blog, I’ve got two meters started for the two nonfiction works I’m planning. One is started, the other–not so much. I actually tried to plug these meters in a more visible location, but for whatever reason, it refused to save anywhere else. I’m not techy and was happy, I found a place on the page that it would save.
