Changes are coming

I have been thinking…

… and I think I will go ahead and make some changes to this blog site. It will still be iggylife.com and Mignon’s Place, but I am going to use this medium as a way to document my learning.

You see, lately, I’ve had this nagging urge to learn about my family history. You know to understand where I come from. I mean I know where we’re from. We’re an immigrant family from the Philippines. But having moved here when I was 10 years old, there’s so much I’ve forgotten or don’t know about.

Not knowing makes me feel disconnected somehow.

I have a tight knit family — I’m not feeling that kind of disconnection. But a historical disconnect — I guess. I mean, how can I not know about the Country of my origin? It makes me feel bad. I’m even starting to lose the language a bit. I can still understand tagalog, but I’m noticing that I can’t translate English to Tagalog as quickly as I used to. I have to actually think about the word or phrase. It wasn’t like that before.

My background is a part of my legacy. Even though my boys are not interested in our history right now, someday they might be. And I want to leave them that information.

But before I can, I gotta relearn and discover the information for myself too.

Research, here I come!
